Education

Recognizing education as a cornerstone for community upliftment, NEF is dedicated to making it accessible. Through initiatives like Edu-link during COVID-19, we curated targeted remediation programs, addressing distinct challenges faced by students in slum areas. Many, as first-generation learners, encountered obstacles due to limited resources. Edu-link bridged this gap by connecting students with dedicated teachers through digital platforms like WhatsApp and Zoom. Furthermore, NEF actively provides remedial English and mathematics, amplifies educational opportunities for underprivileged students, and reinforces our commitment to building a more inclusive and empowered society.

Women's Livelihood

The Women's Livelihood Project by NEF is a transformative initiative addressing the disproportionate impact of the pandemic on women in Delhi. Recognizing the multifaceted barriers women face in entering the workforce, we focus on building socio-economic resilience. The project strives for increased workforce participation, and improved socio-economic status, championing gender equality and community-led economic empowerment for women.

Environment

NEF is deeply committed to environmental well-being, recognizing the disproportionate impact of climate change on marginalized communities. In response, we initiated "Project Climate Ready" in collaboration with the Delhi government. Focused on fostering environmental consciousness, the project works with students from Delhi government schools, molding them into climate champions equipped with essential green skills. As air pollution and climate crises escalate, NEF endeavors to empower the youth with knowledge and tools to address these challenges. By partnering with the government and engaging students, we aim to create a future generation that is not only aware of environmental issues but also equipped to actively contribute to sustainable solutions, ensuring a greener and healthier world for all.

Healthcare

NEF's healthcare initiatives began with urgent assistance during the COVID emergency and have evolved into a sustained commitment to the health of urban poor communities. Acknowledging the community's specific needs, we prioritize community health and wellness. Through dedicated camps, we provide essential medical services, health education, and preventive interventions, addressing the unique health challenges faced by residents in low-income communities. Our goal is to bridge health disparities, promote long-term well-being, and recognise that comprehensive healthcare is a fundamental building block for a more equitable and thriving society.

Youth Leadership & Capacity Building

NEF is actively shaping the future by engaging with youth in transformative ways. Through our Youth and Capacity Building program, we empower young minds by creating a cadre of community volunteers. These dynamic individuals undergo comprehensive training and receive the necessary assistance, molding them into local champions. Our focus is on equipping them with the skills and knowledge needed to address community issues through active engagement. These empowered youth not only contribute to positive change within their localities but also become catalysts for broader societal transformations.

Additional Services & Support

In low-income communities where access to information is limited, NEF extends vital support through documentation assistance, facilitating the acquisition of essential documents like Aadhar cards and voter IDs. Recognizing that many residents lack these crucial forms of identification, our initiative seeks to bridge the information gap. Through targeted assistance, we empower individuals to secure official documents, unlocking access to numerous rights and opportunities. NEF not only facilitates documentation but also organizes donation drives, ensuring that these communities receive the additional support they need. By addressing the documentation challenges prevalent in low-income areas, we aim to enhance individuals' ability to participate fully in civic processes and improve their overall quality of life.

How Volunteers and Interns Can Make a Difference

The Story of Ritam Sudhir When Ritam Sudhir joined us as a volunteer, he didn’t wait for change. He led it. In a city like Delhi, where over 10,000 tons of waste are generated every single day, most of it ends up in landfills. But Ritam saw an opportunity to shift the narrative from dumping waste to managing it responsibly, starting at the source: our homes. What began as a grassroots initiative quickly grew into a citywide climate education and waste segregation movement. Through community workshops, door-to-door campaigns, and partnerships with local schools, Ritam and his team empowered families to separate wet and dry waste, reduce single-use plastic, and rethink their relationship with the environment. He didn’t stop there. Ritam introduced climate education into classrooms and helped children become early ambassadors of sustainability. When young minds understand the problem, they become powerful voices for the solution. Through system mapping, data collection, and citizen engagement, his project is now informing broader efforts for sustainable waste management across Delhi. This is the impact one volunteer can have. You can too. Start with your home. Segregate your waste. Talk to your neighbors. Share what you learn. Climate change is not a future threat. It is a present challenge. And your actions, no matter how small, matter. Join us in building a cleaner, more climate-responsible future.
