Women's Livelihood

The Women's Livelihood Project by NEF is a transformative initiative addressing the significant challenges faced by women in Delhi, especially those exacerbated by the pandemic. In response to pandemic-induced job losses and the difficulty women faced in finding employment, this project emerged with a vision to empower and uplift women economically.

The project adopts a holistic approach to enhance women's participation in the workforce, focusing on skill development, financial literacy, and breaking gender norms.

One key component involves the formation of Self-Help Groups (SHGs), where women from common localities come together, pool resources, and receive capacity-building sessions. The impact is evident in the formation of five SHGs, engaging 450 women and empowering them with entrepreneurial skills.

Mahila Mandal Mobilization and Revival leverages existing women's groups to spread the project's objectives, resulting in the engagement of 52 Anganwadi Centres and 93 workers. Six young women and girls have emerged as community leaders, showcasing the project's success in building leadership among the youth.

The project extended its focus to young women and girls with initiatives like Pre-employment Training and Spoken English Classes. Thirty-five beneficiaries each have gained essential skills, boosting their confidence to enter the job market and pursue career goals. With a total of 35 beneficiaries from Pre-employment Training and Spoken English Classes, the Women's Livelihood Project has made a substantial impact on enhancing the capacities and prospects of women and girls in Delhi. This initiative showcases NEF's commitment to creating community-led models of economic empowerment, fostering gender equality, and improving the socio-economic status of women in urban poor communities.
