When Ritam joined us as a volunteer, he didn’t wait for change. He led it.

In a city like Delhi, where over 10,000 tons of waste are generated every single day, most of it ends up in landfills. But Ritam saw an opportunity to shift the narrative from dumping waste to managing it responsibly, starting at the source: our homes.

What began as a grassroots initiative quickly grew into a citywide climate education and waste segregation movement. Through community workshops, door-to-door campaigns, and partnerships with local schools, Ritam and his team empowered families to separate wet and dry waste, reduce single-use plastic, and rethink their relationship with the environment.

He didn’t stop there. Ritam introduced climate education into classrooms and helped children become early ambassadors of sustainability. When young minds understand the problem, they become powerful voices for the solution.

Through system mapping, data collection, and citizen engagement, his project is now informing broader efforts for sustainable waste management across Delhi.
